The Times They Are A-Changin’

- Bob Dylan

Learning (noun) – The acquisition of knowledge or skills through study, experience or being taught. If we follow this definition as laid out in Oxford dictionary, there are 3 ways in which people learn –by studying, by experiencing or by being taught.

For a long time, learning in a formal context focused on 2 of these methods – studying and being taught. Experience was understood to be something that the learner would automatically accumulate throughout his lifetime.Somewhere down the line, people realized that experience can also be built in the training/teaching sessions. Not only that, doing so may significantly enhance the quality of learning. That’s where the concept of using “games” for learning came in.

There are a number of changes happening around in the field of education. Whether we look at adult education, higher education or K-12, technology is rapidly changing the way we learn. One of the concepts that has seen a rapid rise in popularity is ‘Gamification’. Many applications have used the concept of ‘Gamification’ to great effect not just in education but also for purposes of motivation and behavioural change .

This blog is an attempt to share some of the latest developments that have been happening in this field. We would also be presenting our thoughts on how games can be used to improve our learning experience as well as retention. Although this blog would primarily focus on executive and higher education, sometimes we might discuss learning in a broader sense.

Your comments and suggestions are most welcome.
